Hi,

I'm an "old" Ventures Online customer with a couple sites that are on hosting plans that aren't getting the same bang for the buck as the new/current plans offer (I have one on a V20 and one on a V50).  I'd like to know how to go about upgrading them both to a V250 plan since I can get more storage space for each of them as well as save money on the site which is currently a V50.

After perusing the WebHSP.com site, I found information that said I could do this via the sites' control panel, but I didn't see any such option at either of them.  I also found information that said I should log in to ccc.webhsp.com, but in order to log in I need an email address and password...  I have a user name and password that I used to use for logging in to the VO support area but I've never used an email/pw combo so I don't know how to log in.

Also, is there any talk of raising the bandwidth limits on the shared plans?  I checked around for other hosting providers after the WebHSP-Data393 buyout (I was worried about what seemed like corporate instability until I realized that WebHSP were the old VO people) - there's a local company which appears very professional that offers 1GB storage and 30GB bandwidth for only $5.99/month.

Thanks

We have not added the newer packages to the acquired servers because we are doing a capacity and performance audit on them before we do that.  We want to ensure we don't do anything that will impact the performance of the servers.

What we are planning to do is update the older plans to a similar configuration of our new plans.  There will be no pricing changes, but there will be changes to disk space and bandwidth on all plans. We will most likely do this at the time we upgrade the physical servers.

What we are doing in the meantime, is handling requests on a case by case basis. In your case, if you could email billing@webhsp.com, we can update your disk space for you on your current packages.  Please provide your name and the two domain names your are hosting.

Data393 support system currently requires an email login and password. We imported that information into our system to make it easier for customers to transition, however many customers have been confused.

When you email me with your name and domain names, ask us for your CCC login and we will respond with your login information.

If you look, you will find a large difference between pricing on shared hosting plans offered across the internet. Bottom line is that for a hosting company to profitably offer quality service and support, they have to manage their servers capacity and performance.  To do this, you will most likely find a disclosure that states that if you are impacting server performance, your account can be disabled/suspended.  We have the same disclosure.

So if you really need that much bandwidth, I would suggest you look at the number of 'hits' your site is getting.  If it is getting over 1,000,000 hits per month, chances are that the hosting company will ask you to upgrade to a VPS or dedicated server based on server resource usage, which is separate from bandwidth.  Although you can use a lot of bandwidth without impacting server performance, e.g. downloads, graphics, etc, in many cases it is due to high traffic with complex scripts running, such as forums.  In those cases you will be subject to the terms of their resource usage policy and most likely asked to move off the server. This is plain old server management 101.

The high bandwidth in packages are set to draw in more customers. The reality is that most customers never come close to using those resources and therefore it's fairly safe for them to offer those packages.  Of the small percentage that do use them, there is a high probability they can ask the customer to move off the server due to other resource usage and if they don't, they will have poor performing servers.

We've set our bandwidth limits at a level that we feel is generous enough, but doesn't draw in customers who've been banned from other hosts.

As far as disk quota, we are increasing the disk quota significantly and as mentioned in other posts, are handling requests on a case by case basis until our audit is complete.  Many of the servers will be upgraded soon and at that time the new plans will all be added to the servers for upgrading purposes.

Thanks for your inquiry and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

What is the status of the server audit?

So, can I do the same thing and request more disk space for the time being?

Hi BassX,

What is the status of the server audit?
Unfortunately, dealing with the acquisition and day to day tasks has caused this audit and planning to go a bit slower than we would like.  However, here are the tasks we have done and have yet to do. Unfortunately, we don't have a strict deadline, but are setting deadlines as we complete each phase.   For example, after our meeting with the Data Center tomorrow, we will have a  plan to gather information on the new server specifications and the start of a migration plan.

    [/li]
  • We have run reports and identified accounts that are too busy for a shared server. We will be evaluating the accounts and notify customers/resellers within the next couple of weeks.
  • We have identified the servers that need to be physically replaced.
  • We have identified target capacity for the servers, however need additional information from Resellers on the Bulk Reseller servers.  We will be contacting resellers (today or tomorrow) asking them to complete a questionnaire for us to assist us in the Bulk Reseller server planning.
  • We will be meeting with the Network Operations Center tomorrow to discuss replacement hardware and hopefully begin developing a migration plan.
  • Once the servers are upgraded and we are confident we have adequate capacity, we will be updating the plans and notices will be going out informing customers of the details.
  • We also need to update our website.  The navigation and information is a bit outdated with the addition of the cPanel shared hosting. The person that will be doing that for us is part time and will be starting in the next week or so and will have other tasks and training, so not sure of a deadline for that yet.

Yes, all cPanel shared hosting customers can contact us to update their packages as needed. Just email billing@ webhsp dot com,  or open a support ticket.  We have been able to accomodate most requests on the shared hosting packages.  Just let us know your name, domain names of the packages you want updated and what you need updated,  e.g. Disk Space.

Sincerely,

Pat Smiley
