Hello All,
Over the weekend we had a security violation on our 'breakout.whspn.net' server in which attackers were able to deface a number of websites and databases. Our staff caught the attack and managed to halt the attack from spreading to the whole server, and the rest of our servers.
The security of our servers and our client data is the most important thing to us here at WebHSP and after completing an extensive security audit on our servers, we determined that they were able to deface our clients sites this weekend due the use of weak passwords. While we understand that passwords shouldn't have to be cryptic and hard to remember; there is a breaking point that forces security enhancements in this world and we are afraid that this attack on our server was the 'straw that broke the camels back' so to speak.
Starting today Monday June 13th, we are now requiring all clients to enter a new secure password upon entering the control panel with their existing password. The new password will be required to be of a strength of '50' and this will go a long way to ensure that our servers and more importantly your data is safe.
We here at WebHSP use a fantastic open source and free tool titled Keep Pass to manage our secure passwords on our machines. This tool will allow you to store your secure passwords and will even encrypt them so if your local PC is compromised they will not get your passwords, all without having to install anything, just download, open and start using it. You can even use it on mobile devices including IPhone, Android and even a USB stick. The program again is 100% free and secure and can be downloaded from their website @
