Hello,

I am unable to check email or view one of my sites (JRitzman.com) so I thought I'd come check out the server status but I couldn't find an option to do so.  On the Support page, under "Technical Support," it says to check "Web HSP Announcements" for such information, but I see no link to such an area.  Is there one, and if so, how do I get there.

Thanks,
James

Hi James,

Your domain mail and site should be working properly now. The announcements are made in your CCC management, in the first page you see under announcements.

Please contact us if you have any further questions or comments.

Perhaps these announcements could be made available in a subscribable format, either by mailing list or (my preference) RSS?  Pretty simple to set up a Wordpress or typepad blog for them, which would make them automatically subscribable in Firefox or any RSS-capable reader.

I missed the announcement on teh PHP/.htacess changes, which resulted in five hours of downtime for my web site.  I assumed that critical configuration changes would merit emails.  I generally don't log onto support unless I have an issue.

This has prompted me to look at the Virtual Server offerings, and, assuming that my test setup has a unique hardware problem that will be resolved, I'll probably go that route.  But there has to be a better way of making me want to upgrade my service than proving to me how fragile my existing account is -- four downtimes (three mail, one web) since WebHSP took the account over from Data393, after no problems for the last few years with VO and then Data393.  I'll note though, that it must be bad luck with Frogger.  I have another account set up on Joust that hasn't had a blip (and I'm probably jinxing it... :-)).

Hey Peter,

In regards to the downtime that you experienced with the upgrade to phpsuexec, we are really sorry for that.  We did not think that upgrading to phpsuexec would cause so many errors or problems, so we posted notices in both the CCC, and in the forums.

The reason for the upgrades lately is to make the servers more secure.  We have noticed that our servers are being exploited quite frequently.  We have been taking a re-active approach, in that we are removing any scripts that we find that are not supposed to be on the server.  However we would really like to take a more pro-active approach and stop the servers from being exploited at all and in order to do this, we need to upgrade certain services on the server.

Please note that in the future if there is to be any upgrades done to the server, that may require this many changes to sites, we will most likely be sending out a detailed email in regards to the upgrade.

Hi,

I was out of town when this was posted, but did want to note that the CCC announcements are 'opt-in'.  You can opt-in to have the first update to an announcement emailed to you by clicking on the News section of the CCC.

Sincerely,

I happened across this post and thought I would add this information:

Our announcements can also be accessed directly (without going through your Customer Control Center (CCC)) through the following link.  You may want to 'bookmark' this for future reference.    Again, you can 'opt in' to received an email whenever we post a new announcement through your CCC.
